Untangling Cognition
An attempt to sort out some of the confusion and dismay that reigns in the discussion of mind. I find myself having severe difficulty writing long essays, so I shall attempt to post a series of short essays instead - a sort of mini-blog, if you will. Comments should be posted at the end of each essay.
Please pay attention to the dependencies - read all the Prerequisites of an essay before reading the essay. Otherwise I cannot guarantee your continued sanity, let alone your edification and enlightenment.
I suggest reading the essays in the order given, but that is only a suggestion; the Prerequisites are necessary.

Rationality:
These essays should be accessible to all comers.
- Untangling Cognition/Power Behind Science (2004.06.06)
- Untangling Cognition/Bayes Theorem (2004.06.06) - This points to An Intuitive Explanation of Bayes' Theorem, which is prerequisite to most essays in Untangling Cognition.
- Untangling Cognition/GoalAndSubgoal (*2004.06.20)
- Untangling Cognition/Map And Territory (2004.06.06)
- Untangling Cognition/Need For Evidence (2004.12.27)
- Untangling Cognition/The Way (*2004.08.15)
- Untangling Cognition/Bayesian Final Judgment (*2004.08.19)
For some essays, you will find it helpful to have read something about:
- Expected utility.
- Evolutionary Psychology (see Evolutionary Psychology Resources).
- Shannon information and Kolmogorov complexity.
- Evolutionary Biology with math.
I'll try to introduce each of these subjects. Alas, I'm a lousy teacher, and I won't have time to do them in the same detail as Bayes' Theorem. There are other resources on the subject out there.
- Shannon Information (2004.06.05)
- Untangling Cognition/Bayesian Probability (2004.06.05)
