Talk:The Scenarios Project/Other Ideas

Use this page to post ideas for new features to add to The Scenarios Project, or ideas for other changes to make.

Ideas that Peer Infinity currently plans to implement soon:

  • try to find a better way to show the index of the pages in The Scenarios Project - maybe have a list of each of the separate sections of the graph, that don't connect to each other?

Ideas that Peer Infinity currently plans to implement eventually:

  • implement personal scenarios graphs. need a way to decide which parts of the personal scenarios tree to add to the main scenarios tree. all of them?
  • need to create more possible effects for actions and scenarios? creating or using a resource, like time or money? Currently, the way to indicate that a project requires money is to have an action labeled "donate money to this project", and mark that as a "Necessary Condition" for the project.
  • a scenario type for counting a resource, show the number after the counter name
  • have connection types for adding or subtracting a resource
  • add personal scenarios for things a person is considering buying, or donating to
  • consider adding scenario types for quality, rather than quantity
  • use graphviz groups to mark what group a scenario belongs in
  • a scenario for the number of earth-originating sentient beings in existence
  • condition scenarios - counter is greater than a specific value
  • consider setting up a way that if, for example, several people are working on the same project, they share the same "Working Towards" node
  • consider making nodes for specific dates, make connection nodes for "X Years after this event", set this up similar to the counter nodes, have the "speeds up" and "slows down" nodes affect these nodes somehow? or just update manually...
  • two nodes in the scenarios graph can be linked together, to form a double node! use this for things like probability, and maybe resources
  • probability range, for disputed probabilities, have a way to vote, show the results of the voting?
  • set up formulas for the probability of one event given another event? bayes
  • wiki scripts for these formulas?
  • resource counters for people's free time and money. link to a schedule of free time?
  • set up better templates, use parameters for these new values
  • other formats, vrml, for the main map
  • create subcategories of scenarios

Set up a system for each user of this Wiki to assign their own priority to each Project, or to advertise that they are personally working towards that Scenario. A system for the users to discuss the costs, benefits, methods of achieving the Scenario, and the probability of the Scenario occurring without intervention

Users of this Wiki should be allowed to create their own personal section of the Scenarios Web, for Scenarios, Projects and Actions that are important to them, but maybe not immediately important to anyone else.

Ideas that Peer Infinity currently does not plan to implement:

  • random idea: have a flag to mark nodes in The Scenarios Project as important, show the important pages in the local graph pages, even if they are more than one link away? automatically treat existential risks as important? and goals?
  • consider setting up a separate namespace for The Scenarios Project or is it better to continue using the main namespace?
  • get a version of Graphviz working on the OCE server, or possibly webdot
  • update the script that generates the maps for each scenario page - set up a template, possibly with a parameter specifying how many levels to include in the snapshot of the graph. Consider having a separate section for root groups, people, and scenarios that affect the scenario, and a section for leaf nodes that the scenario affects. Consider keeping track of whether the effect is positive or negative. Consider keeping track of how many positive or negative scenarios are positively or negatively affected along the way? Consider showing "Directly Causes" and "Permanently Prevents" links even if they extend outside the preview range.
  • instead of trying to have one big graph of all scenarios, try having a series of smaller graphs. Set up a system for indicating which graphs each node belongs in. Try setting up a system for creating an overview graph, which shows the whole graph, but has related nodes all grouped together into a single node. For example, a group for all different types of Artificial intelligence, or a group for all different types of dangerous things from space that could exterminate life on this planet.
