SL4 Lexicon
This lexicon contains words which Singularitarians, Singularity advocates, Singularity analysts, and anyone interested in the future might find useful. The entries include semi-technical terms, acronyms, organizations, discussion lists, and more. Other interesting glossaries include Anders Sandberg's Transhuman Terminology, the Nanotech Now Glossary, the General Intelligence and Seed AI glossary, and the Creating Friendly AI glossary.
This lexicon is a mishmash of topics, including AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) organizations, AI researchers, Cognitive Science, evolution, Singularitarianism, transhumanist material, terms related to the nascent discipline of AI morality (sometimes called Friendliness), characteristics of Goal Systems, very speculative terms and ideas to be used in thought experiments, and papers circulated within the Singularity-oriented communities. It is recommended that readers acquire at least some familiarity with these topics before plunging in - Kurzweil AI.net, Accelerating Future.com's articles section, and the Singularity Institute pages are all good places to start.
This lexicon includes very futuristic and speculative terms side-by-side with acutely relevant and practical terms, so ambiguous entries are labelled accordingly. "Very Speculative" means this something may not be possible under the laws of physics as we know them. "Somewhat Speculative" means this something is probably not possible through human agency alone. "Non-Speculative" means this something is almost certainly possible through human agency, and is relatively likely to occur within the first half of the coming century. Keywords with their own entries link to the page where the keyword is defined. Have an enjoyable read, and feel free to post any comments, additions, or corrections to any of these pages.
