[edit] Info

I helped create this wiki in 2008/2009. I am 26 years old.

I still have not overcome my irrational paranoia of revealing my real name online.

Like Michael Anissimov, my main goal in life for the time being is to raise money for Friendly AI and other projects to mitigate the risks of AI, nanotechnology, and synthetic biology. I have been a supporter of Friendly AI since 2001.

I'm concerned about runaway seed AI being created between today and 2030. It might not happen that soon, but still, I think there's a significant probability that it could, and I'm concerned.

Unlike Michael, I haven't actually managed to do much to achieve these goals, other than donating a few thousand dollard to SIAI, and working on this wiki, and the SL4 Wiki, which is now entirely inactive.

I have at least made a token effort to network with other SIAI supporters, Singularity activists, and transhumanists, mostly in IRC and Second Life, but am still not able to contribute much of value.

I have a joint-honours degree in computer science and mathematics, and am currently employed full-time as a computer programmer. I work on this wiki in my spare time.

I live and work in Manitoba, Canada. I still have not met any SIAI supporters, Singularity activists, or transhumanists in person. Until I went to university, I had not even met any atheists in person.

For the past several months, I have been spending most of my free time in Second Life.

Here is a picture of some of my avatars in Second Life:

The following text is copied from my Second Life profile:

I am Peer Infinity, from Second Life.

I am a continuing series of incarnations of the character Peer from the novel Permutation City, by Greg Egan.

In the novel, Peer was a character who really knew how to have fun while living inside a virtual reality.

For more information about me, and the character Peer, see Peer Infinity/Quotes from Permutation City.

I spend most of my time in Second Life hanging out in Extropia.
