Nick Hay
Presently a student of New Zealand's the University of Auckland. I aspire to be a rationalist (e.g. to have true and accurate beliefs), an altruist, and a Singularitarian. I'm interested in positively influencing humanity's future (helping humanity), and I wonder at the things that may one day be possible. I see the development of artificial intelligence (in particular the possibility of smarter than human intelligence) and molecular manufacturing as key points of influence. I worry about existential risks (threats that could extinguish humankind) and the background suffering we learn to ignore.

Singularity Institute for Artificial Intelligence (SIAI) - A group working on the technical problem of how to create the AI we should create, in sufficient detail to actually create it. Long term plan of sparking the human Singularity. (Long, but very interesting, story.)
Centre for Responsible Nanotechnology, Foresight Institute - People working on how to accelerate the development of nanotechnology and use it right -- spreading awareness of its dangers and benefits. They don't place enough emphasis on how nanocomputing will accelerate the arrival of AI, and the consequences of that. (SIAI does.)
Pharyngula, The Loom - Evolutionary-developmental-biologically themed blogs I enjoy.
Sluggy, MegaTokyo - Web comics I like.
Comments welcome.
